Thanks to a partnership with 5 of the most important video mapping festivals in the world – Borealis – a festival of light (U.S.A), Genius Loci Weimar (Germany), Kyiv Lights Festival (Ukraine), One minute projection mapping competition (Japan) and Zsolnay Light Festival (Hungary) ) – for the second year in a row, iMapp Bucharest was Winners League.
The finalists whose visual works were projected during the event are the winners of the 5 partner festivals, as well as the winner of the Jury Award at the 2019 iMapp Bucharest: FLIGHTGRAF, JONAS DENZEL, DIES_, LI CHENG, DARKLIGHT STUDIO, MICHELE PUSCEDDU. The façade of the Palace of Parliament, the largest projection surface in the world, has become the map of the video mapping world, each artist presenting his own vision on how he discovers and explores this world through his experiences. Each projection lasted 3 minutes and used an impressive 8K resolution. Complex 3D images customized and reinterpreted the 23,000 square meter façade, through a show of sound, light and color.
This year’s theme, “THE SHOW MUST GO ON“, presented domains of impact in contemporary society (art, music, sports, education and tourism), which have the ability to reinvent themselves and ensure the dynamism of a life that we have all missed so much in the last two years.
At the end of the international video mapping competition, the jury – consisting of prominent representatives of the audiovisual industry from all over the world – decided the winner of iMapp Bucharest – Winners League: JONAS DENZEL (Germany), who presented the interactive work “Beatlights“. Jonas Denzel is the winner of the latest edition of the Genius Loci Weimar festival in Germany, director and visual artist, creator of lighting installations, video mapping and documentary film. He is known in many cities in Germany and in the United States for his projects for public spaces.
The live concert experience was invaluable. We all missed, whether artists or spectators, the vibration of live music, dancing, the humming of favorite lyrics and the energy of sincere applause. DJ CS84 ensured the atmosphere in the first hours, and the band SUBCARPAȚI performed on the iMapp Bucharest stage, in the opening of the video mapping shows.
At iMapp Bucharest, on September 18th, 2021, the locals and tourists celebrated the artistic life of the city.
